Daily “To Do’s” get Things Done!”
Our brains like rhythm. That’s why phrases like Taco Tuesday or Flashback Friday are so easy to remember. The words just roll off the tongue.
A virtual client of mine was frustrated that her weekends were filled with never-ending chores, so we decided to break those tasks down to daily manageable “to-do’s.
She suggested “Trash It Tuesday” since her garbage pick up was on Wednesday morning. All of a sudden, she was having FUN assigning her dreaded tasks to different days.
It sounds a little silly, but it works.
She reports that when Thursday rolls around, she immediately thinks “Towel Thursday.” When Friday comes along, her brain goes straight to “Floors Friday.”
It is not a strict system, and it certainly is not a chore chart. It's a gentle framework that keeps things moving along without a lot of thinking.
Why This Works
These little phrases act like mental cues.
Instead of trying to hold a long list of chores in your head, your brain begins to associate the day with a simple action.
Even better, you do not have to complete everything every single week. Perhaps every other week works for you? Remember, the goal is not perfection, it’s just to get things done!
If you like this idea, here are lots of ideas on how you could structure your own week. Choose what works best for you, your week, and your energy.
