3 Key Organizing Tasks to Wrap Up the Year!

The last week of the year is the perfect time to finish lingering organizing projects so you can start the New Year with calm and clarity. While we all have good intentions each January, it’s much easier to set yourself up for success when you hit the ground running with systems already in place.

Check out my tips 1,2 & 4 in the Parade Home & Garden roundup of must-tackle end-of-year organizing projects, also in Yahoo!Shopping.

  1. Reset Your Fridge and Pantry

A refreshed fridge and pantry make meal prep easier, help reduce food waste, and set you up for healthier eating. Eat up the leftovers, empty your fridge, toss expired items, wipe down shelves, and reorganize so the items you actually use are easy to see and reach.

Do the same with your pantry: group staples together, pull forward older items, and donate anything you know you won’t eat. Clean, decluttered food storage helps you cook with confidence and saves money by cutting down on forgotten old foods.

  1. Sort Through Holiday Decor

It’s tempting to just shove decorations back into boxes after the celebrations, but that leads to chaos the following year. Take the extra hour to evaluate what you truly love and use. Donate, recycle, or let go of broken or unloved items.  Store by the area decorated (“Mantle”, “Kitchen”,   “Stairway”). Get everything sorted now so the next holiday season is smooth and joyful instead of stressful.

  1. Edit Your Medicine Cabinet

The medicine cabinet is a small space that can create big stress when it is overstuffed. Expired medications, old prescriptions, and products you no longer use quietly pile up and are easy to ignore.

Take everything out and check expiration dates. Discard anything expired, duplicated, or no longer needed, including old vitamins and half-used products you never use. Then group what you are keeping into simple categories like daily medications, first aid, and cold and flu.

These three areas — food storage, holiday supplies, and remedies — might not sound glamorous, but they are powerful ways to reduce stress and clear space in your home and mind. Knocking them off your list before the New Year will give you a sense of accomplishment and free up your energy for the new year’s goals.
