Stop Counting What's Left. Start Counting What's Done!
Can we talk for a second?
It's the last day of June, HALFWAY through the year, and if you're anything like me, you might be looking at the calendar thinking about everything you meant to get to this year that's still sitting there. The closet you were going to tackle in January. The paperwork pile you swore would be gone by spring. That one drawer. You know the one.
So of course, I started dwelling on it too. Until I got on the phone with a friend who gently reminded me of everything I HAVE done this year, and honestly, in the years before it, too.
In case you don't have a friend like that on speed dial, or you simply don't have time to call one (and that's real, life is full), let me be that voice for you today.
You have come so far.
I mean that. Just being here, reading my emails, clicking on this blog, welcoming new ideas? That counts! That's you choosing to try and learn, even on the days it would be easier not to. That's you deciding that your home and your peace of mind matter enough to keep working on, even if your progress is slow-going and imperfect.
Because “good and done is always better than perfect and none”!
Maybe you cleared one drawer this year. Maybe you finally dealt with that one box that's been sitting in the garage. Maybe you've just started to pay attention to your space in a way you never have before.
All of that counts. All of it is progress, even the parts that don't feel big enough to mention out loud.
We are so quick to count what's left undone and so slow to count what's already behind us. So today, I want you to do something different. Think of one thing, just one, that you've actually accomplished this year. Big or small, it doesn't matter. Sit with it for a second. Let yourself feel good about it, without immediately following it up with "but I still haven't..."
I want you to know you're doing a great job! Truly. Keep going. You can do it!
