The Pro Organizer’s Shopping List: 12 Products I Always Reach For!

After more than 20 years as a Certified Professional Organizer, the question I get asked most often isn’t about decluttering methods or filing systems. It’s this: “C.Lee, what do YOU actually USE?”

I love that question because the products that make the biggest difference in a home aren’t expensive or complicated. They’re simple, affordable, and reliable tools that I reach for over and over again in client after client’s home.

So I finally put them all in one place! My free guide, The Pro Organizer’s Shopping List: 12 Products I Always Reach For, has everything with links and descriptions, and most items are under $10. But today I’m walking you through all twelve right here, because each one deserves a little love.

Everyday Essentials

These are the tools I keep coming back to again and again. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated.

  1. Two-Pocket Folder

I know, I know. It’s just a folder. But you’d be amazed at how many piles disappear the moment you have a dedicated spot for your most important papers. One for Action Items, one for Medical Bills, etc, and suddenly that pile on your counter has somewhere to go. Tuck them in here and stop hunting for them later.

  1. Retractable Sharpie

No cap to lose, no dried-out tip because you forgot to put it back. A retractable Sharpie is one of those small upgrades that makes a surprisingly big difference in daily life. I keep one in every room. For under 2 bucks each, once you go retractable, you’ll never go back.

  1. Zippered Document Bags

Flexible, protective, and portable storage for important papers, makeup, receipts, office supplies, and so much more. These are incredible for keeping categories contained. Zip it shut, grab it, and nothing falls out. I use these constantly with clients who are always on the go.

  1. Brother P-Touch Label Maker

When the Sharpie won’t do, this will. Clean, consistent labels elevate any organizing system instantly and, more importantly, they make it easy for everyone in the home to maintain order. Trust me, when things are labeled, people actually put them back.

Accessible Storage

The secret to a home that stays organized isn’t willpower. It’s having a place for everything and making that place easy to get to. These four products do exactly that.

  1. White Storage Bins

These sturdy little bins are absolute workhorses. I use them in closets, on shelves, and in kitchen cabinets to corral everything from craft supplies to pantry items to bathroom extras. White keeps things looking clean, calm, and uniform, so even an open shelf looks intentional instead of chaotic. (And makes them easy to label - see #4)

  1. Turntables

A lazy Susan is one of the most underrated organizing tools on the planet. A rotating turntable makes everything instantly accessible with one spin, no more digging around in the back for the cumin or the cold medicine. Great for spices, condiments, skincare, or cleaning supplies. Just spin it, and everything is in reach!

  1. Fast Fold Bankers Boxes

When you need to archive paperwork, store keepsakes, or move things into longer-term storage, these are your best friends. They go together quickly, stack neatly, and keep your documents protected. I recommend writing the contents AND the date on the outside so that you know exactly what’s inside without having to open the box.

  1. Sterilite Totes

Durable, stackable, and built to last for the long haul. Perfect for seasonal décor, clothing, keepsakes, or bulk household items. Unlike cardboard, these protect against moisture and pests, and they stack beautifully. When you need storage that really lasts, these are it.

Essential Solutions

Small solutions, big results. When you create dedicated spots for the things you use every day, you stop wasting time searching, and your home just feels calmer. These last four are the everyday products that help everything have a place and stay there.

  1. Command Hooks

Damage-free hooks that maximize your vertical space without a single nail hole. Ideal for hanging bags, keys, towels, and accessories in any room. I love these especially in entryways, bathrooms, and kids’ rooms, where hooks make the difference between things landing on a chair versus landing where they belong.

  1. Over the Door Hooks

An instant storage solution that adds function to any room with a door. Perfect for bedrooms, bathrooms, or inside closets to hold coats, hats, umbrellas, towels, or bags. And here’s my favorite use: these are ideal for your “clerty” clothes, you know, the ones that aren’t quite clean but aren’t quite dirty either. Give them a hook instead of the floor!

  1. Plastic Drawer Organizers

These simple containers transform a messy, jumbled drawer into a structured, functional space in about five minutes flat. They work beautifully in kitchens, offices, bathrooms, and dressers to keep small items separated and findable.

  1. 24-Pocket Mesh Shoe Organizer

Don’t let the name fool you, I seldom use them for shoes! Instead, I’ve used these to hold cleaning supplies, gloves, hats, scarves, craft materials, hair tools, kids’ art supplies, water bottles, snacks in the pantry, and so much more. If it fits in a pocket, it now has a home. This is one of those products that people are always surprised by, and then immediately go buy three of.

There you have it! Twelve simple, affordable products that I genuinely reach for again and again after two decades in this field. None of them requires a renovation, a big budget, or a whole weekend to implement. Just a little intention and the right tools.
